The freezer-meal rotation that stopped us losing mystery containers
A low-maintenance labeling and inventory routine that survived six months of actual family use.
We stopped trying to maintain a perfect freezer spreadsheet. Every container now gets painter's tape with the dish, packed date, and number of portions. New food goes behind the older row.
A small magnetic card on the freezer lists only complete meals, not ingredients. On Sunday we erase anything used and add anything cooked. The card has never been perfectly accurate, but it is accurate enough that food no longer disappears behind frozen peas for four months.

We use the same tape system but add a red mark for meals that can go straight into a lunch bag.
That is a useful distinction without adding another list. I may borrow it for the next batch.
